The site stays "up" while the domain gets taken over
The most damaging DNS incidents do not look like downtime. An uptime monitor sees a green check the whole time, because the problem is not availability. It is posture.
Dangling subdomains
A forgotten subdomain points at a decommissioned cloud resource. An attacker claims it and serves content under your trusted domain. Your homepage never went down, so uptime monitoring never fired.
Silent auth failures
An SPF edit pushes you over the lookup limit, or DMARC drifts to p=none. Your mail starts landing in spam or gets spoofable. The records exist, so a change-only check sees nothing wrong.
Certificate & DNSSEC drift
A weak TLS config, an expiring DNSSEC signature, or a CAA gap opens the door to mis-issued certificates. The domain resolves fine right up until trust breaks.
When a different tool is the right call
